NO CELL PHONES DURING SOL'S
ATTENTION STUDENTS and PARENTS:  There are very serious consequences for having your cell phone visible at any time during your SOL test session.  Please familiarize yourself with the following consequences, no exceptions:
1) You will be dismissed immediately from the test session.
2) Your test session will be cancelled and you will NOT be able to retest until summer.
3) Final Exam exemption is no longer an option for you.
4) Discipline will be assigned.
Semester Exam Schedule
Believe it or not, semester exams are just around the corner! It is not too early to start planning and studying for these assessments now. Second semester exams will be given beginning for Seniors May 31st and Underclassman June 13th. A Semester Exam Schedule can be viewed by clicking here.  

Hylton Artwork Heads to Nation's Capitol
Hylton is proud to announce that Emily Krupp, sophomore, won 1st place in the 1st Congressional District Art Competition. Her drawing entitled "Pixel Collision" will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for 1 year!  Congratulations Emily, we are proud of your accomplishment!  Click here to see the "Pixel Collision".
Notice of PTSO Office Openings

Hylton's PTSO is currently seeking individuals who are interested in playing an instrumental role in sponsoring events, such as the Homecoming Picnic, Teacher Appreciation and the Senior Celebration events.  Without a PTSO, without you, these events will not happen.  The PTSO needs to fill the following positions immediately:  President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.  Please click here for additional information and for contact information. 
Seniors...We Need Your Help!

The Senior Awards Night will be held on Thursday, May 23 at 7 p.m. This ceremony will showcase scholarship awards that members of the Class 2013 have worked hard to obtain. If you have received a monetary scholarship/grant of ANY amount, please submit your scholarship award letters IMMEDIATELY to your counselor. We need this information whether you accept the award or not. Unfortunately, we are unable to recognize student achievements without proper documentation. Please let your counselor know if you are unable to attend; attendance is not mandatory.

Student Awards Ceremony

--Thursday, May 23, 2013
--5:00pm, Hylton Auditorium

Departmental Awards (to include Perfect Attendance, Girls' and Boys' State recipients, HOBY recipient, and student of the year in each department) will be held on Thursday, May 23 at 5:00 p.m. in the Hylton Auditorium. A reception will be held after the event in the Commons. Parents of students who are receiving an award will receive an invitation in the mail.

Environmental Club Celebrates Earth Day

The Environmental Club and Mrs. Musto wish to thank everyone who supported the club at our very First Annual Eco-Carnival on April 23rd in celebration of Earth Day.  There were lots of activities and games and delicious baked goods all in honor of Earth Day.  Check out some photos and additional details HERE!

Class of 1993 and 2003 Reunions
The classes of 1993 and 2003 are each celebrating their 20 and 10 year reunions, respectively, this upcoming June.  If you were a Bulldog during one of these two graduating classes please make sure you check out all the details on your upcoming reunion on the Hylton Alumni page, found here!  Congratulations on your landmark reunions and remember, "Once a Bulldog, Always a Bulldog"!

Hylton Art Students Recognized
The Art Dept.is pleased to announce that McKenna Baublitz, 11th grade, recieved a White Ribbon Award for her Self-Portrait Painting. She will have her work displayed for a year in Kelly Leadership Bldg. Also, Cat Vasta received 2 AP Honors ribbons for her work displayed from her AP Studio Art Portfolio.

Congratulations Russian Essay Contest Winners
Hylton is proud to announce that four of our students who participated in the National Russian Essay Contest all won various honors for their understanding and application of the Russian written language. In addition, during a second round of judging at the prestigious Pushkin Institute in Moscow determined that Marie Mach and Sydney Millar will receive gold medals at the international level!  Congratulations!  Click here for additional information and a photo
Online SOL Preparation Resources

No time better than the present to begin preparing for the SOL testing!  To help our students prepare for these tests, we have bookmarked lots of free resources that are available online. You can find everything from test taking strategies to practice tests to games for review available here!  While at home you can also visit Hylton's Delicious site which contains 470+ sites for review!
Electronic Use Policy Update
The following Electronic Use Policy will go into effect Second Quarter:

Students can use electronic devices during their assigned lunch shifts but only in the Enclosed Cafeteria and the Commons. All electronic devices are to be put away and turned off when students are not in lunch. We ask all students to review the Code of Behavior Electronic Use Policy so that responsible behavior is exhibited at all times. The following consequences will be issued when violations occur:
-1st offense: after school detention and parent must come to pick up device
-2nd offense: 4 hour Saturday school and parent must pick up device
-3rd offense: OSS

Receiving Notifications for an Incorrect Class?

Students who have had a schedule change since the start of the school year will need to "quit" the class webpages of the courses that have been dropped. Click here for directions. These directions also work if your online schedule appears to be incorrect.
